A guide to safe loading and unloading of dangerous goods
In this feature from Croner-i, Caroline Raine discusses the safe loading and unloading of dangerous goods when transporting them by road.
To ensure the safe transport of dangerous goods, they must be correctly loaded and unloaded. The regulations must be followed, and loads must be correctly secured. Many of the prohibition notices issued relate to unsafe loads, most have not been correctly secured.
The loader should only hand over dangerous goods to the carrier if they are authorised for carriage in accordance with ADR. They must ensure packed dangerous goods are not damaged and not leaking and that they comply with special requirements of loading and handling.
