This course focuses on identifying hazards and the risks to families and individuals within their own home and the provision of effective types and placement of home safety equipment as well as the necessary behavioural changes needed to reduce accidental injury. From stair gates to touch lamps, delegates will gain a greater understanding of which equipment is most effective in the reduction of accidental injury.
Aims & Objectives
To develop delegates’ skills in promoting safer home environments, by developing skills and knowledge in:
- Identifying the type of home safety equipment that is most effective in reducing home accidents for those groups most at risk, namely the under 5’s and/or over 65s
- Identifying at least 2 types of home safety equipment that are effective in reducing the risk of falls for both the under 5s and/or over 65s
- Identify at least 1 type of home safety equipment that is effective in reducing the risk of injury from fire for both the under 5s and/or over 65s
- Identify at least 1 type of home safety equipment that is effective in reducing the risk of scalds for both the under 5s and/or over 65s
- Identify at least 1 type of home safety equipment that is effective in reducing the risk of burns for both the under 5s and/or over 65s
- Identify at least 2 types of home safety equipment that are effective in reducing the risk of accidental poisoning for those under the age of 5 years and/or over 65s
Who is the Course Intended for?
All who are implementing Home Safety Check with a view to providing of home safety equipment. Ideally, delegates will previously have attended our one-day course on Child Safety in the Home or Older People Safety in the Home. As with our other courses, we welcome delegates from the voluntary, community and statutory sectors.

Prior knowledge
Practitioners with a Home Accident prevention remit or delegates who have previously attended RoSPA's Child Safety in the Home or Older People Safety in the Home. course.

Qualification and Certification
All delegates will receive a RoSPA certificate of training on completion of the course. This course qualifies for CPD (Continuing Professional Development) points, if applicable.
