Workplace Transport
'Safe person, safe vehicle, safe site'
On-site transport remains the second biggest cause of accidents in the workplace, causing around 70 fatalities and over 2000 serious injuries every year. Careful consideration of ways in which to segregate pedestrians from vehicles throughout the workplace is the key to reducing accidents.
RoSPA is regularly called upon to assist organisations rightly concerned with effectively managing this high risk area. Our on-site workplace transport review is an independent review of vehicle movement and operations across a site. It is based upon the three areas as suggested in HSG 136: safe person, safe vehicle and safe site and considers:
- Workplace transport policy and organisation
- The risk assessment process
- Traffic management
- Legal requirements
- Traffic routes
The service is suitable for all worksites where there are moving vehicles, be it in carparks, depots, warehouses or making deliveries. The RoSPA Consultant will visit the site to observe existing lay-out, design and working practices. The consultant will then be able to report back with an action plan of how working areas can be improved with better:
- Lighting
- Signage
- Road surfaces
- Staff training
- Traffic management
- On completion of the review you will receive a detailed report and prioritised action plan as well as an on-site de-brief.
All recommendations will be specific to the site, the tasks and the vehicles.
