Year of Coasts and Waters 2020
In 2020, the Year of Coasts and Waters will be celebrated across Scotland with a year-long programme of events and activities which will shine a spotlight on these vital elements of Scotland’s landscape.
Including its many islands, Scotland boasts a hugely varied coastline and a rich offering of waters in both rural and urban settings for both visitors and locals to enjoy.
Scotland’s Coasts and Waters have shaped its history: from fishing and textiles to whisky and wave power, they have influenced culture, stories, and Scotland’s way of life.
RoSPA are keen to promote Scotland’s coasts and waters in a safe way. We recognise the valuable benefits that water has for sport and wellbeing but seek to awareness of the dangers around water.
Sadly, on average 50 people accidentally drown in Scotland’s waterways each year. We have advice and a number of resources for many different activities so that people can enjoy and experience our waterways safely.
Duty Holders
Safety at Inland Water is RoSPA’s principle guidance for site managers and duty holders at UK inland water sites: our lakes, rivers, canals, reservoirs and harbour areas.
