About the Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate

The Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate is regulated by the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual). Qualification Number 610/5022/2. It is a competence-based qualification for those learners working in adult social care setting at Level 2 and includes topics such as personal wellbeing; safeguarding; equality, diversity and inclusion practices; digital skills; career development opportunities; and infection prevention and control.  

It is designed to develop the learner’s knowledge and understanding of the underlying principles and skills required for a variety of job roles in the health and social care sector.  

There are no prerequisites for this qualification, however, the entry age is currently 19 and it is recommended that learners have a minimum of Level 2 in literacy and numeracy or equivalent 

 

What does the Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate cover?

 
Learners must achieve all of the following units: 

Principles of understanding own role

Awareness of mental health and dementia

Personal development

Principles of adult safeguarding

Duty of care

Understand the principles of safeguarding children

Promoting equality, diversity, inclusion and human rights in adult social care settings

Promoting health, safety and principles of basic life support

Work in a person-centred way

Effective handling of information in adult social care settings

Promoting effective communications in adult social care settings

Principles of infection prevention and control (IPC)

Principles of privacy and dignity in adult social care settings

Understand learning disability and autism

Promoting nutrition and hydration in adult social care settings

 

Is funding available? Yes!

The Learning and Development Support Scheme is intended to provide financial contributions towards learning and development for the non-regulated adult social care workforce.  

Eligible employers can claim funding for the Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate on behalf of eligible care staff for up to £1500 per qualification.  

Funding is currently available for eligible courses and qualifications that have been both paid for and started between 1 April 2024 and 31 March 2025 (inclusive).
