Cycling is a great activity for the whole family, and it is even better when done together, allowing children to learn skills such as communication, teamwork and road safety, all while having fun and getting some exercise.
But surveys have shown that some people are put off cycling because they are concerned about safety, and that many people would like to see more cycle routes introduced that are separate to roads. As well as dedicated cycle routes – which are increasing in number in towns, cities and the countryside – giving families the knowledge and confidence to embark on bike rides together is really important to help them feel safer.
