Water areas
Open inland water areas account for around 40 deaths of children every year by drowning. A recent national survey showed that 28% of equipped play areas are within the distance a toddler could wander from the area.
There have been several high profile deaths by drowning near equipped play areas. As a consequence, RoSPA strongly recommends that all water areas that are accessible to children should have an independent inspection on a regular basis (every three or four years). This can be done as part of a rolling programme to spread the costs.
RoSPA are the leading water safety experts in the UK and provide specialist inspections of water areas.
